Graphics Cand Upgrade

I'm going to buy a new video card, then send my 6970 out for replacement. Then I'm going to sell my sell my 6970 for $125. I'm planning on buying a used 280x $215 or 290 $300. Is the 290 worth the extra money?

CPU I7 960 OC 4Ghz
6Gbs 1600mhz cas9 ram
Corsair tx850w psu

Games played Mechwarrior Online, World of Tanks and skyrim
Might buy Star Citizen, Dragon age inquisition, Grand Theft Auto 5, dark Souls 2, Titan fall etc

Well If you are playing in 1080p both cards can handle very good games stable at 60Hz, yeah the 290 is a faster card but i wouldn't go for that extra and i would pick the 280x

U can go with gtx 770, amd r9 290 and 280x or if u want titanfall on ultra than go with 780

Unless you're on a 1440 monitor, are running plenty of mods for Skyrim or pushing Titanfall, I doubt you'll see any real gains from the R9 290, it's only benefit will be its large VRAM, for most mortals a R9 280X will be enough.
And the CPU will be very little restriction-it's quite capable of driving a R9 280X to its limits and I doubt it'll be much of a restriction to a 290 either, you're more likely to see the useful frame rate capped to 60 FPS by the monitor (unless it's 120 or 144 Hz ;)  )
