So i recently ordered my motherboard which is a ASrock Fatal1ty Z87 Killer LGA 1150, because i am only 17 my income from my job is little and i ordered that first, now i have enough money to order my RAM but, Since i wanted my processor to be a Xeon E3 1245V3 because i have heard they are very good and tend to be better than I7's. So i went looking what types of memory speeds it supports, it says it supports 1600, and 1333. But the memory i was looking at was a CORSAIR Vengeance Pro 16GB 1866 CMY16GX3M2A1866C9R. (i like how the color matches the motherboard), Since the Xeon only supports 1600 i was asking my one friend if he knew if the CPU would automatically adjust the RAM for the speed it supports or if i have to buy 1600 ram since it only supports 1600 speed. He said that he didn't know. So that was no help. Also since the new Xeon's have the DDR3 memory controller on the CPU itself this means that i do not need to use the ECC memory am i Correct? or do i still need the ECC memory? and if this is true i am probably just gonna end up buying a lower end I7 then. And the reason for the Xeon or I7 is because i use computers heavily since i am into networking and stuff and plan on going to college for it and figured since i am that its probably a good thing to have a high powered computer then. Also what timing am i looking for in memory? i know that you want a low CAS latency speed so like a 9 and then does the timing even matter? or if you want it to be fast do you have to look for lower speeds in that too? So any thoughts at all are welcome! Thanks everyone!
