I'm looking to build a new PC. I'm on a budget (but not too bad). I was looking at Video Cards, and I heard that the R9 270X was a pretty good card for someone on a budget that could provide some pretty good performance. I found a Gigabyte OC Edition 2GB (Model number GV-R927XOC-2GD) for about $206 on Amazon, and the same one that has 4GB (GV-R927XOC-4GD) for $235. Is it worth it to spend the extra $30 to get the extra RAM, or save it? I play a lot of the fairly latest games, such as FC3, BF3/4, and others.

If you are doing 1080p just go with the 270x 2gb, if u are going with multiple monitors or more than 1080o then go with 4gb cause of slight price difference.

I would be playing at 1080p, on my 1080p monitor. But, I have a second monitor (it is older, and is connected by VGA) that has a resolution of 1024x768 that I would just have a browser window up or other info while I'm gaming (definitely nothing graphically intensive whatsoever). Would my gaming performance drop because of this monitor, and if it does, should I then go with the 4GB?

Just go straight up with the 2gb version, 4gb isn't such a biggie even if it's 1080p, but if you do plan on doing multiple-monitor gaming, the extra $30 shouldn't be such a bad idea.

The R9 270X is a great card.
The 2GB version of the card is fine at 1080p
IF your ever want to add a monitor or get a better monitor go for the 4GB

If you can spring 30 bucks from the 4gb model, get a Gtx 760 2GB.

The Gtx 760 is better then the 270x

More VRAM is not the only thing to consider.. Say your playing a fairly demanding game at 1080p 2Gb of VRAM on a 256Bit bus on reasonably fast GDDR5 memory is enough. Take Crysis 3. Playing at 1920x1080 with the settings set to very high will with FXAA, which is the least demanding AA on that game, will use about 1600Mb-1800Mb of video memory. I used a GTX 770 2Gb to test Crysis 3 and the highest Memory usage was roughly 1860Mb. Lets just say the Windows Desktop uses 100Mb-300Mb to add to any game. SO ROPs are also important too and can improve FPS and memory utilization especially when using different types of Anti-Aliasing. And then Memory Bus. 256bit is the standard for 1080p gaming depending on how slow the video memory is this may not be enough. but most new GPUs use GDDR5 at a decent speed. It would not really make a whole lot of difference in performance to get a R9 270X 4gb opposed to the 2Gb model for 1080p. it would be better for gaming at 1440p but you may need more GPU horsepower anyway. Say a GTX 780 3Gb on a 384bit bus. or a R9 290 4Gb on a 512bit bus would make a a much bigger impact at resolutions greater than 1080p.
