I don't trust ebay and it is the only online auction site I consider using. I certainly would not trust a online auction site that i "ran into". If your selling electronics ebay takes 10% of the profits from your highest bid. WTF lol

at some sites you not only pay for the item, but you also pay for each bid. The price for the item may be 2.82, but if you also spent 100 bucks for bids, then it doesn't seem to be anywhere near as good of a deal.

Stick with real auctions like Ebay and it's easier to see exactly what your cost is.

Penny auction sites are a scam and a half. I read somewhere that for every cent you bid, you're actually paying something like $1.50 per bid. So on an item that would cost $2.82 on that site, take that into account. With that you're actually paying $1.50 for 282 bids, and the price of the item would actually come out to something like $423 for a $199 item.

the only auction site that i trust is EBAY. i've heard ebay has a few competitors but i've never dealt with them and they dont have the network. all penny type bidding or cheap auction houses are scams and should be avoided.

i have both purchased and sold items on there without issue on ebay. they are generally there to stand behind you (more so for buyers than sellers) as well. as always you need to be aware of what you are buying and if you are selling you need to make your return policies and item descriptions clear but this is not a problem normally. there are some deals to be had on there. i recently bought an a10-5800k for a good $50 lower than retail (it was brand new in box) so its worth checking out once in awhile.

yes, the "commission" rates do seem high but people who complain about them normally do not know much about auctions. actual auctions (non-online type with real auctioneers) can have commission rates between 20-30% which makes ebay seem like quite a deal. the commission rates for amazon stores arent cheap either.

That is a great point. I don't have any experience with auctions outside of the internet, but I guess it is standard to charge a fee for that. I had the luxury of using ebay for 6+ years with no final value fees at all so when they suddenly started charging their normal listing fees + 10% it was a sad day. ebay customer support and buyer protection system etc has advanced considerably over the years as well, I like to rationalize the extra cost that way. I remember the days when getting in contact with ebay customer support was like trying to find the lost city of Atlantis...no longer.
