Like for example if they make a new processor called Intel Core i7 5th gen and you have Intel Core i7 4th Gen you bought it like 2 months ago would you switch to the new 5th gen asap like other people do?

If the performance difference is worth the upgrade , then sure. Paying $300 for 10 FPS is not okay. $40 and I'll consider

i'm still running on my build from 2010

you can see it if you however over my avatar. (i7-920 based system)

its too expensive to upgrade for every generation and the increases really are not all that spectacular. if there was a major step forward then yes its worth upgrading (i added a ssd) but if its just something minor then no i do not.

I am using a laptop that I bought for $70 (core 2 duo) and a desktop that I built for less than $200. If you don't play games there in no need to pay more than one or two hundred for a build.
