ASUS HD7970 - Safe to try AMD's drivers instead of ASUS?

Hi,
i have an ASUS HD7970-DC2T-3GD5 GPU. The card is 1 year+ old and ASUS seems to have discontinued the driver updates. Would it be wise to install AMD's drivers for this card? Will it mess anything since the card is obviously overclocked by ASUS? (noobie here) The card is strong but it lacks support..

Any replies are welcome...

they are the same drivers just get it from amd much more up to date no matter what

Make a hard drive image of the C: drive before upgrading. I have two ASUS HD7970 cards working fine on 10 monitors with the drivers that came with them. I tried the latest AMD drivers. Only finds 9 monitors? I had to restore the drive image.
