MOBO - B85m-P33 V2 (MSI)

If I use either the OC Genie or set the clocks myself I'm unable to to get my chip past 3.7mhz, I've set the voltage to 1.5 to see if this helps but still nothing. I've currently got my multiplier set to 50 as to test if even setting this high will crash the system, and yet it booted up and windows states i7-4770K@3.50Mhz 5.0Mhz...?

I've tried updating the bios in order to fix this issue but found that this created a new issue, I could not get the multiplier past 39, so I flashed back the old bios...

I have 2x 200mm fans within my case for airflow, and also a Noctua NH-D14 so I don't think this is the problem, perhaps I have a bad chip that's unable to be pushed past 3.7.

I feel saddened that I'm unable to find a solution, can anyone help with a fix? perhaps someone has had the same issue and found out what thew fix was?

You're trying to overclock with that motherboard, no surprise you can not get anywhere. Get a better board if you want to overclock.

I don't get why you bought a k proccessor and didn't get a z87 board.

I was trying to cut corners if I 100% honest, I didn't realize this would have such an impact... I've taken your advice and just ordered MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming Intel Z87 Socket 1150 Motherboard

Wait...........You could have gone Z97 since they're already out! You could still use 4770k with z97, but have upgrade path to upcoming Devil's Canyon and 5th gen Broadwell.

there is hardly, if not any difference between the Z87 and Z97, just the Z97 most of the time has a higher price tag.

5th Gen CPU's are going to be a great architecture to wait for, Intel may have a real big surprise for us!

Yes, but you can upgrade to 4790k when it releases in about a month, and 5th generation broadwell in 2015 if you go Z97. With Z87 you're pretty much stuck with 4770k as your best option. Devil's Canyon might have higher overclock potential and better temps.

I will be happy running my rig with 4th Gen for the time being, I did look at the Z97 and notice a nice big jump in price.... when he time comes I'll simply buy a new chip a board.

As mention previously money has been an issue which is why I chose to go with the B95M-P33 V2 (CHEAP), since you mentioned that it was a bad choice I simply started to search for a board in which I could use to overclock, having read reviews and also watching youtube video reviews I opted for the MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming Intel Z87 Socket 1150 Motherboard!

I totaly understand that the new chips will be coming but it's always the same with pc, they continue to evolve and I don't want to be constently having toi upgrade to stay on top of the latest chips etc, my last setup was an i7 2nd gen gaming laptop which served me well for 2 years, I'll be happy to simply stick with the i7 4th gen for the next 2 years.

By this time the prices wil drop and be more affordable ;-)

Fair enough, at least now you'll be able to overclock with the new board, and check the quality of your CPU. Mine can do 4.4Ghz at 1.248vcore for example.

I'l receive the new board tom so I'll be testing mine to see how far I can push it without crashes, I'll be using Prime95 for stress testing, can you recommend a better program for stress testing?

I never used Prime95. I have a paid version of AIDA64 Extreme, and also ran RealBench2.1 from Asus, this one is free. Some also test with Intel burn test.

I have AIDA64 Extreme which I have also used, perhaps this is better than Prime95? Maybe I'll give Intelburn ago? is it free?

yup intelburn test is free, but you need good cooling for that, I persoanlly never ran it. Haswell gets pretty hot if you up the vcore. I wouldn't go past 1.3 vcore.
