So im looking to upgrade the graphics card in my 2008 PC...its an HP Pavilion Elite (m9180f) which has the following:

-Core2 Quad 2.66ghz (bus speed: 1066mhz)
-4G DDR2 RAM 667mhz
-8800 GT Geforce 512mb
-460watt psu

Ive looked in to the requirements for power and such and I basically narrowed down my choices to a few video cards...my question is, which one should I buy? I dont mind bottlenecking a tad but I also dont want to be wasting my money:

GTX 550ti - ~60$used
GTX 650ti - ~80$used ~120$new
GTX 750ti - ~110$used ~140$new
Radeon HD7770 - ~100$used ~120$new

Will ALL of these cards bottleneck on my CPU?? The 750ti seems to have the best value and im very tempted to press buy but...would it be a stupid decision because of the a amount of bottlenecking?

Which card should I get??

The 750 Ti will be the fastest of the lot. The 650 Ti (real close), HD 7770, 550 Ti next in that order. Your old dual core will be fine with any of them.
But the differences in performance are mostly on paper. The 750 Ti is the newest, coolest running, lowest power card of the lot.

I would definitely go with the 750 Ti. It uses Maxwell architecture, which is the next-gen of Nvidia GPU's. It's the only available card right now that utilizes it. They will be producing the high end cards using Maxwell, but I believe they are waiting until they have the 20nm process available. This is probably more technical then required, but I am just highlighting why it would be a smart decision. It is significantly faster than all of the other cards listed (650Ti being the closest), so I would go with that.

I don't honestly know if it will bottleneck or not, but even if it does, it's still a good card to have especially if you upgrade your CPU/mobo in the relatively near future.

Thanks clutch..its a Quad btw ;] (makes me even more giddy on the inside!)
Can anyone confirm that my Core2 Quad will not bottleneck with a gtx750ti? Im so ready to push buy but I need some more confirmation please

I can confirm it. You are good. You were probably good with the C2D. Btw, which C2Q is it? And what is the resolution of your monitor?

Its the Q6700.
I just got back from Best Buy but I couldn't decide weather to get a:

650ti 2G - $100
750non-ti 1G - $115
750ti 2G - $150

I was pretty sold on the 750non-ti (1G) until I saw the 650ti (2G) and felt the need to go home and consult with you guys :]

So should I definitely get the 750non-ti because its newer gen or get the 650ti 2g because its 2 gigs at a good price.....or should just get the 750ti at that price?

I lied, it was from Frys...just thought no one would what that is... They had the 650TI 2 Gb for $100 which I thought was pretty good... so I did an online compare to the 750 non-Ti and it sort of beat it in everything but power consumption....this bothers me cuz now I want to get the 650Ti2Gb even though its older......

I should want the 750 cuz its newer...right? I mean it SHOULD be better even though its only 1gb..right?

I got the 750 non-ti down 30 bucks at Frys which makes me want IT...

I feel so indecisive right now..

i wouldve saved 50$ bucks there, the difference isnt very big

I sort of want to save the 50$ as well....but now its come down to the 650ti2gb and the 750. Heres the comparison chart: http://www.hwcompare.com/17113/geforce-gtx-650-ti-2gb-vs-geforce-gtx-750/

If you are going to keep comparing everything to the stock 750, of course the older 650 Ti and Ti Boost is going to be faster. But when you compare to the 750 Ti, the 750 Ti is still faster than even the 650 Ti Boost: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1040?vs=1130
Is the price too high to go to the GTX 750 Ti?

I did, but that 650ti was the 1Gb, not the 2gb.

I might just get the 650Ti-2GB since it seems to be winning over the 750non-ti

Best price I've found on a GTX 750 Ti 2GB card that is slightly factory overclocked. Free shipping. Even a $10 rebate if you live long enough. And maybe even no tax if you live in a state that doesn't have a Newegg warehouse in it.

Thanks for the help clutch.
I ended up getting the Asus 750Ti OC for $155...brought down from 170$ so im pretty happy... well im happy with the 3d performance but my 2D slightly decreased, which I dont understand

2D performance hasn't really improved on graphics cards in years- and the 8800 gt was a decent card in it's day. The main advantage you're going to get from the 750ti is the newer feature set and support for more modern games.

The 550Ti 2D score is much higher than the 750Ti but oh well...I got the 750Ti for gaming anyway..Im happy.

If you're reffering to the windows experience index... I wouldn't pay *any* attention to that at all lol!

The 750ti is hands down faster than a 550ti across the board, You'll probably find the 750ti is scoring lower because it will drop it's clocks further when not doing much to save power.

the 650 beat it in Windows Interface, fonts & text, and image filters by about a dozen points...everything else was pretty even..

But yeah that makes sense...sweet, 750 is badass.
