I've heard that AMD is now focusing on APU instead of high-end CPUs such as the FX.

Is this true?

More about : amd longer focusing high end cpus

Since there are alot of threads on this already I will keep it short.

Pretty much yeah. AMD sees themselves working with APUs in the near future, hopefully to better prepare to re enter the high end market.
I hope they go for APUs, then make a triumphant return with true physical 8 core Phenom IIIs

Probably, but that sucks because i was planning to get Gigabyte motherboard with AM3+ for my new build. I guess i wont go further than FX8350 :/

Well that's sad... AMD is cheap and their processors are quite good actually.

AMD is working on a totally new arch to replace the faildozer modular arch. We won't see it for awhile though. Excavator should still be out next year. I think the new arch is a couple years out, though.

There will be high end apus with the fx branding that will at worst compete with traditional dcpus and at best destroy them, at the high end in gaming the idea is you have an apu doing cpu work on the x86 cores and offloading parallel cpu work to the gcn igp cores while your dgpu handles the display. The ps4/xbone should ensure enough market share so games developers use huma and hsa and marketshare in the mobile sector from thier hsa partners should ensure huma/hsa is used in other software.
For the first time in a long time I actually feel excited about amd but we'll see in the next 2 years what is going to happen i suppose, early hsa benchmarks look very promising.
