Hello,

I'm not someone who spends a lot of time with building PCs, my current rig was built on order.

I have a i7 920 (2009- Not OC) on an ASUS P6T board with EVGA GTX 260 and 6GB on RAM G.Skill 3x 2gb triple channel). Case is ANTEC 900. No aftermarket coolers.

I was planning on getting a new computer but upon research, I think I can add a few more years to the current rig just by upping the RAM to 12 (I can still find the same RAM part to pair with my current kit) and upgrading to a more modern gfx chipset.

GTX 760 seems like the best value at the moment, and the MSI Twin Frozr came highly recommended.

I opened up my case to check a few things out and noted there's an extra 2 pin connector on my GTX 260 going from my card to the MoBo night to the 6 x 2 power plug.

On the MSI install videos/reviews I've seen, there is no mention of this.

2 questions:
1) What does the 2 pin connector do and can I ignore it when installing the MSI gtx760?
2) is there anything else I should know given the information provided?

Many thanks.

Looking at the case, the size of the card should fit but I'd look at the Zotac GeForce GTX760.
I've got 1 of those and I can't praise it enough. Prices have come down also in the last few months.
MB is fine with the upgrade also.

But what PSU do you have? As the 760 Cards can be quite power horny.
I was forced into upgrading my PSU at the same time as the graphics card.

Saying that, I've just looked into the MSI GTX 760 TwinFrozr & it only requires a min of 170W

PSU is Antec 650W trupower Trio; also from the original 2009 build.

Most of the comments from my research notes 500W should be plenty, and the PSU I have is SLI ready though I do not plan on doing SLI on this rig so I think I should be ok power wise.

Do you know anything about the 2 pin connector from the GTX 260 going to mobo and /if or I should be concerned about that for the GTX 760? as in, should I ignore it, or where would I plug that in.

Reviews of the MSI gtx 760 card Ive seen don't talk about it at all.

Not intended to be a bump but I found my answer ;

The 2 pin connector is a legacy port for S/PDIF sound for the HDMI port to output sound to the TV per the post above, newer cards support internal sound cards so the connector is no longer needed.

"Yes all the gtx 500 or newer have a sound card built in to handle the audio for the HDMI and DVI"

Yep. my PSU should be ready. The evga gtx 260 is using 2x 6 pin power connectors at the moment, I noted one of the power plugs has an extra 2 pin connector, so it should plug right into to the 8 and 6 pins for the 760.
