I was thinking of the XFX 550W one, though I am wondering if I overclock the gpu,cpu would that be enough? What wattage would I need for crossfiring? For some reason, I believe XFX recommends a 700w one if I remember correctly, though don't see why I would need one with that amount of wattage, especially for one card.

XFX is a great choice. I normally like to see 750W or better for CF/SLI, although you could probably 'get by' with 650W as long as it has the right number of 6/8 pin PCIe connectors. For the single R9-270X, a 550W XFX will be sufficient. But again, I like to go bigger for more headroom. I would probably up it to 600W if it was for myself.

-Better quality psu, also cheaper because it's on sale.
-Cheaper case, better quality.
-Used saved money into a stronger gpu.

The 970 chipset will only have x16, x4 lane CF. Not a wise choice for dual cards, if that is what the OP wants to do.
As to the R9-280, yes it is a bit quicker in most games than the GTX 760. I just went thru the decision making for another rig I have with those two cards. I finally settled on the 280.

Have you tried overclocking it yet?

Personally I think that case is a bit ugly. Is there one at a reasonable price that will hold my hardware and provide decent amoount of space.

I sorta like this case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139038&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

May allow decent airflow too, though not sure how sturdy it would be

No. I haven't had time to play with that build. It's hardly had the new smell worn off yet...

Oh ok, was wondering. Figured that the 280 can be possbily turned into a 280x, sorta :D

Well bought the i5-4670k, processor only, today. So it seems I will be going the intel route. Keep hearing how intel's do better with MMOs for some reason, maybe bad coding? Also feels I am cheating on AMD LOL. I have always bought AMD

I use both. Build 'em... play with 'em... sell 'em. Build another. Intel has so much better IPC than AMD, that it is probably the reason the top end i5s and i7s always out perform the AMDs... at gaming.

Was looking at RAM and CAS. Looked for a little cheaper ram. Found a 2133 CAS 10 for $71 vs 1866 CAS 9 for $80+

According to a forum post on how to calculate it, the 2133 @ CAS 10 would be the best one. Correct?

It depends on what you mean by best. If your MB can support it and the brands are comparable, yes.

Then you can use either one. but keep in mind, the slight differences in RAM speed make extremely little difference in performance of the overall machine. Mostly it is only noticeable on benchmark testing. In real, everyday use, you won't be able to tell which you have when you get to that class of memory.

I can't imagine you'd be able to tell the difference. Of all the things that affect performance in gaming, the memory is probably at the bottom. As long as we are talking reasonably close comparisons, that is. But you were talking 1866 vs 2133, not 1600.
