I'm debating whether to buy the "critically acclaimed" Alienware 17 at $2,249 or the MSI GT70 Dominator at $2,299. They're very close and I know generally Alienware is overpriced but this option looks economical compared to other similarly spec'd laptops. What do you guys think?

Thanks, I was initially set on an 880 and told myself I wouldn't settle for less, but I also needed a Blu-Ray disc burner and the 880 isn't significantly faster than the 870 so I said "why not". Also, the ASUS website is horribly outdated(their latest products don't show up).

Eeek! None of those.

Alienware 17's are crap. They are overpriced as hell. That R9 290X isn't anywhere near as fast as a GTX 880M as well.

You can actually get this GT70 with a GTX 880M, which is the fastest card on the market, for less than $1850.

If you actually have $2250-$2300 to spend, the best gaming laptop on the market is the ASUS G750JZ.

It's much, much nicer than either the Alienware or GT70, it's the coolest running gaming laptop on the market, gets decent battery life, has dual SSD's on RAID0 that are actually faster than even the incredibly popular Samsung 840 Evo, it has the best gaming keyboard around, incredibly high quality display, and stays really quiet.

I actually own the G750JH and had my dad buy the G750JS. They do not disappoint.
