I have an MSI Z87M GAMING mobo with a 4670k cpu and R9 280X.

My query is on the maximum safe 'system temperature'. This new build I've got sits at 33-36'C idle, and under full cpu & gpu load rises to 48-52'C (cpu up to 60'c, gpu around 66-68'C). I've searched and found threads posted over the last couple of years that have worried about system temperatures of up to 60'C, and replies have generally said thats ok, but not great.
Maybe I'm more old school in my thinking, but I always had this max safe temperature as around 40'C. This came from building old Athlon/C2D machines back around 10 years ago.
Can anyone give me a more upto date figure I can be confident with? I'm assuming 'System Temperature' relates to the NB temperature?

for your 4670k 60°C is normal. if it increases above 72°C then you have a problem. 72°C is its max safe temperature.

In your case
under full cpu & gpu load rises to 48-52'C (cpu up to 60'c, gpu around 66-68'C)
is not a thing to worry at al.

you GPU R9 280x is build to reach upto 85°C. You only need to worry if it exceeds that value.
gpu around 66-68'C
is a safe temp.

ENJOY GAMING

Thanks for your reply. I wasn't worried about CPU nor GPU temperatures. It was the 'System Temperature' reported by the motherboard. I remember ten years ago that 40'c was considered by many as a maximum safe temperature. I just need confirmation that this is no longer the case really.

Cheers
