Hi everyone.

Before I start building my first PC. I was wondering something, maybe some of you can clear the air about it, I am a little confused about the Thermal Paste.

I will buy a i5-4690 so I will NOT be doing overclocking.

So my question is: Do I need to apply some Thermal Paste on the CPU before installing the fan on the cpu?

Thanks in advanced.

oh, that's a load off my mind. I really thought I had to do it myself. I guess there is too much OC thread on tomshardware.

Cheers mate

It depends. If you are using the stock heatsink then no you don't need to apply thermal paste. Both Intel and AMD package their stock heatsinks with thermal paste already applied. If you are using an aftermarket cooler than you will have to apply thermal paste.

Hi rds1220.

Thanks for your answer. I will be using the stock fan/heatsink from intel that comes in the same box as the cpu. I will not use another one and I will not OC.

Then you don't need to worry about thermal paste. As I said it comes pre-applied.
