Monitor doesn't show display until windows has loaded up.

I need to be able to enter BIOS or safe mode but i can't as the display doesn't load up until the login screen.
I've seen this is a common issue and is usually easily resolved but my monitor is connected via a HDMI cable so it isn't connected to a different port or anything like most people with this issue.
Any ideas?
