Increased idle temperatures since Catalyst 14.4

Hey guys,

on my rig I run a Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X and have noticed that ever since I installed the newest Catalyst drivers my idle temperatures have markedly increased. Before the update the temperatures were around 35°C to 37°C in idle, with 66-ish°C under load. Now I can't get the idle down below 45°C, although the temperatures under load did not increase.

Has anyone else have similar issues?

Download MSI Afterburner: http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm

This program will let you set a custom fan curve meaning that you can set certain fan speeds when your 280x reaches certain temperatures.

Example: when your GPU is at 35C, you set your fan to 25%... When your GPU is at 45C, you set your fan to 40%... When your GPU is at 65C, you set your fan to 70%... Etc.

Doesn't make a dent in the temperature, not even if I fire it up to 100%. I suspect a wrong readout rather than high temperatures.

It's only with the 14.4 and 14.6 versions, I rolled back to the 13.12 a few days back and there the temperatures were as usual.

Alright, when I start the system from the cold state the temperature readout seems reasonable. 28°C just after Windows finished booting. The temperatures increase then up to about 45°C, where they stay. No matter how much I crank up my fans, I can't get them below 42°C, not even with 100% speed. This is only with the Catalyst 14.X, the 13.12 does not have that issue.
