The evga costs 130$ more than the asus.
Same noise.
Asus runs 10 degrees hotter (73) than the evga.
Same performance.

I'll be playing at 1920x1080 on single card. I'll add another card after 2-3 years and play on 2560x1440.

Is the 780 worth the $130? If they had same price which one would win?

The R9 290 is actually decent at 1440p than the GTX 780. The GTX 780 performs slightly better at 1080p.
I personally don't think it is worth the extra cost for a GTX 780. Asus cooler actually depends on airflow in the case. If you have bad air flow, that affect heavily on the asus coolers.
Consider the R9 290 Sapphire Vapour X or the Gigabyte R9 290 rather than the Asus.

Really there are a decent amount of marks where the 290 beats the 780, if they were the same price I would still give the 290 a slight edge, so definitely go that way.

73C isn't bad, the reference version under normal gaming hits 95C so you shouldn't have to worry about the card.

The only other brand i can get for r9 290 is the sapphire tri-x OC for the same price as the EVGA. In that case i'd go for the EVGA

What concerns me is if the 780 has features other than performance/noise/heat that beat the 290 and are worth the 130$

GtX 780 only edges a bit in benchmarks. Physx is one feature and Gsync as well but these isn't really important since the R9 290 can do the same with Freesync and TressFX.
i not saying you shouldn't get the Asus R9 290. It is something you should considered whenever you want to increase the fan speed of the card to lower the temps. The Asus cooler is decent enough in an airflow optimized case.
