i just read a review of the 4790k. i quote this from it:

"due to the extra power consumption generated by higher voltages, the Core i7-4790K ran hotter, at an average of 88C, compared to 78C for the older Haswell processor."

Looks like the new TIM did nearly nothing to me.

Crap, intel seems to be doing their business finance analysis with customers rather than what customers actually want.

I want well not really: 5930k 8 core cpu with ddr 4 support and all those bells and whistles.

Not slight increment in what the markets willing to to pay.

All intel wants to do is destroy arm technology and tailor the xeon market, screw their customers unless your w.i.l.l.i.am.

Still fine with my C2Q 9550 equivalent X3360 because Intel just hasn't been that innovative it's very comparable to i5, but tends to be more energy efficient ironically.

As for i7 if I wanted something more powerful that more closely rivals that I'd just get a cheap dual socket 771 motherboard, pair of xeon cpu's, and some FB dimms since it's dirt cheap second hand.

In fact I could do that with 771 12MB quad cores and disable the cores on each CPU to have a 4 core 24MB cache CPU essentially 6MB per core. With the cores disabled it should cut the CPU power in half roughly so it would be more efficient and cooler as well.
