Should I upgrade to an Amd Fx6300?

Hi, everyone! I currently have an 8120, and I've heard that they have some problems on windows 7. Mine does run quite slow and hot. I've seen that the 6300 is a great option. Should I upgrade?

I would say hold off. Gaming the 6300 would pull a slight edge, but not enough to really warrant the upgrade. 8120 in multithreaded tasks.
I would say 8320 at least, or an intel route (4670k for example)

If you need 8 threads, go 8320, if you do not multitask that much, go 6300 and OC like a champ on a 990 board.

The 6300 would be a down grade. It might have slightly faster single threaded performance, but nothing noticeable. While you are going from an 8-core to a 6-core CPU.

If you upgrade and keep the same motherboard, buy the top end 8-core and stay with it. I think its the 8350 is the number.

Thanks, guys! I plan to get a fx 8320, as it seems a viable choice. I can't go down the intel path, since my Asus M5a97 R2.0 doesn't support intel sockets. Thanks for all the help!

If you can afford it, really you should go FX 8350. Since it will let you overclock it offers better performance and long term usage.

FX8320 allows overclocking...Intel is the only company that locks that into flagship SKUs.

Oh so it does.

And AMD locks the multiplier on several chips. I just didn't notice the 8320 was in the black series. I thought it was the equivallent of the A10-6700 to the A10-6800K. My mistake.

APUs only...anything labeled FX is typically unlocked...unless it is a mobile SKU (so far as I know...the mobile SKUs are all locked).
