Building a motorized key lock?

Hello

I've been thinking of a cool summer project to build a key lock that automatically turns when the key is inserted. While it may sound a little trivial (why not just turn the key yourself?), I thought it'd be an interesting project to work on.

Might anyone know of a cheap (hopefully) solution to this problem? Would circuits be involved? Would motors be expensive? How about a key lock that accepts a cone shaped key?

I don't know much about locksmith-ing. I'm also not keen on materials as well.

Thanks for any ideas/help!

That already exists, no key needed.
Enter the proper code, and the lock retracts
