I am considering a motherboard upgrade to enhance my Crossfire rig (x2 HD7950's). I have an ASUS P8P67 LE motherboard.

The Config is PCIe 2.0 x16 primary card and 2.0 x4 for the secondary card. I would upgrade to the P9X79 LE. This has a PCIe 3.0 x16, x16 capability. I know I can expect some sort of performance increase, but is it worth it? I have seen benchmarks online that suggest that the dual 3.0 slots could perform WORSE than a 2.0 in x16, x8. Obviously this is not apples to apples with my x16/x4 mobo now.

I do not want to abandon the GPU's at this point because I have spent well over $500 on them and I would rather invest in a more ground-level upgrade (mobo/proc/ram) than throw more money at another GPU.

On a side-note, I would also be upgrading the proc from a 2600K to a 4930K. This obviously will be a considerable upgrade as well. I am assuming that would give me some noticeable gains as well.

Honestly I would suggest just waiting for a while. With your current setup aren't you able to max out most games already, assuming you have 8 GB of RAM that is.
