I have been using laptops for the last several years and am looking to move back to a desktop. I've searched around the web and the sites that will let you customize all either seem really shady or way overpriced. So... I'm considering trying to build a gaming computer, this would be a first time build for me.

Approximate Purchase Date: No specific date, this is more of a want than a need
Budget Range: Could spend up to $2500 but don't have too.
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Games (primarily WOW, D3, Borderlands 2, Steam junk), Web Programming, Office (spreadsheets/word), Music/streaming video
Are you buying a monitor: Yes
Do you need to buy OS: Yes, was thinking Windows 8.1
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg or Amazon, or any trustworthy site
Location: Norman, Oklahoma, USA
Parts Preferences: No specific preference
Overclocking: Maybe
SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Additional Comments: Really I'm looking for a setup that will last me 3+ years without having to upgrade parts repeatedly during that time and will play games at higher settings without catching the house on fire.

I put together the part list below. I used the 4770K expecting that I would wait and buy the 4790K instead, since the price should be the same (roughly). If you would be so kind as to show me pieces that should/could be replaced (better quality or better price) or have a build that would fit what I'm looking for a lower price that would be great.

First off - don't purchase that case. Raidmax cases are truly horrible, among the worst of the worst. Second if you have a $2500 budget you should really look at going SLI, it would be pointless not to - at the very least not to even prepare for a future SLI setup - on that budget. You also won't really use an i7 or 16GB of RAM to it's full extent for gaming. I think I would scrap most of the proposed rig and go with something like this:

- Way better case and power supply
- GTX 780 in SLI
- Better SSD (although nothing wrong with Samsung 840 Evo - I use one)
- Better liquid cooler
- Dropped i7 for i5 and 16GB of RAM in favor of SLI setup

That gives you $400 to add whatever monitor, keyboard and mouse you want.
