Hi everyone, i recently started playing bf3, i run on minimum settings on 1280x720 but still get about 20-25fps average. I configured my Windows 7 to use minimum resources yet i still don't get an acceptable framerate. The game doesnt stutter, glich or spike, just an overall low framerate. So i figured out that my GPU might not be able to match bf3 requirements, or at least my requirements for bf3. Il provide you with my hardware, and if anyone can please tell me which GPU should i get to have acceptable framerates on minimum settings - 1378x768 or 1600x900

*note: i'm on a limited budget, so no, getting a new pc isn't and option

CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 215 2.7GHz (overclocked to 3.2GHz, stock heatsink and fan replaced by a Raijintek Themis CPU cooler)
RAM: Kingston DDR2 2x1Gb 400MHz(Only have 2 slots, so i can only replace 1 or both)
GPU: MSI Radeon HD 4650 1Gb(Core overclocked from 600 to 700MHz, Memory from 400 to 500MHz)
MB: Asus M2N68 Plus - DDR2, Supports AM3 CPU, PCI-E
PSU: 400w(Not a problem to get a 500-600w if needed)
HDD: Sata2 1Tb WD Caviar Blue

21,5" LED Monitor - 1920x1080 (1378x768 would be acceptable)

It is indeed old, but i hope getting a bit better gpu would make this game a lot more playable.

Thanks in advance.

getting a new gpu is unlikely to fix your bf3 woes, its quite a cpu and ram heavy game, something like a 750ti may improve matters and get you up to running things smooth at 720p (maybe 40fps), but in honesty youre kind of restricted by your lack of memory and dual core cpu.

I was thinking something like hd 6770 or 6850 would do the trick, at least to make it run smoothly but im kinda worried about my cpu bottlenecking these cards

your cpu will bottleneck these cards, as daft as it sounds at this point youd be better off with a brand new celeron in a H97 board with 8GB of RAM, unfortunately id say that your system is simply far too dated to play such a demanding title reliably

What about 8800gts or 8800gtx? They're pretty old and can be found used very cheap(i dont mind the dx10, im not planing to play games like crysis 3 on this machine). What do u you think about gts450?

i think something like an old gtx480, if you can find one, is about as high as its worth going, but personally id say hold out, save up about £400 and replace the memory, cpu, mobo and gpu all at once

Yeah i was thinking about that, but im about to finish highschool within a year so i wont need a pc anymore and spending over 100€ for components which i will be using fot about 1 year isnt an option.
