Hello TH,

currently my specs are:

Intel i5 3570k Unlocked
2x4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600
EVGA GeForce GTX 670 2GB
Seasonic 620W 80+ bronze Modular 120mm fan PSU
running Windows 8.1

I'm currently looking for a high end GPU that will last me a few years and reliably give good performance, and since my real gauge for quality is just the price tag, I'd like to get an informed opinion on this.
I'm currently looking at the GTX 780, 780ti cards and basically that price range.

And also I want to know if the Ti version is really worth the extra $100 because, again, forking out the extra cash is worth it for me if I will get a substantial boost in performance and overall longetivity of the card.
So I really just want something that won't be obsolete with upcoming next-gen games and I will be able to aim for ultra/max settings at 1920x1080 with a single monitor.

Thanks for your help!

If you want a card that will give high end performance for the next few years, then I would say that it is worth it. The R9-290X is a better value, but it sounds like you prefer Nvidia. Your frame rates will be higher regardless of your monitor resolution.

At 60 Hz? Then yeah, I agree with the above. Often enough, even a GTX 770 is overkill if your goal is 60 FPS at 1080p. A GTX 780 Ti is more defensible at 1440p and/or 120 Hz gaming.

Whether the 780 Ti is worth it over the 780 in a vacuum depends on your perspective, I guess. The 780 Ti is 20% more expensive, and usually 15-20% faster as well. There's a review from Tom's at this link, judge for yourself if those differences are worth it to you.

I see.. I just want to make sure this card will last me a good while. my 670 is still capable but its aged now, and now with next gen consoles the graphics standard has been raised

I'd urge you to not over-read the next-gen consoles. The hardware in those are somewhat comparable to Radeon R9 270/270X's, maybe your GTX 670 if we're being very generous. The hardware you're talking about is capable of resolutions and framerates today that console gamers may not even realize are possible.

see guys with the whole stigma around high res monitors and 120 Hz gaming, I'm just so content running my games at ultra settings 60 fps on my 1920x1080 and Im just paranoid that if I upgrade my resolution i'll be sacrificing a lot of performance. And since I need things to be 60 frames or I get anxiety attacks then I'll just be setting it at a lower ingame resolution which will hurt the visuals

well good thing im happy with 60 fps as long as its consistent, but then theres no point in investing in a 120 or 144Hz monitor if im not going to get fps to match

so i did some more research and now im thinking that the 780 is a better deal because for an extra $200 bucks to get the 780ti, you're not really noticing much difference in performance in 1080p gaming.. So maybe I should just get a good aftermarket cooler and like a factory overclock on the 780? then i can atleast start saving towards a new processor or some more ram or something, or even a new PSU so I can SLI the 780 in the future if there are price drops. :)

If you want a 780 Classy, I'll sell you mine for $550. Less than 3 months old.
