FX-9000 Series Fastest RAM Support?

Do either the FX-9370 or FX-9590 support DDR3-2400 RAM? (RAM which operates at 2400MHz)

Hello, I'm looking at putting together a build over the summer built around the ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z motherboard and FX-9370 Vishera processor. I want to use AMD's Radeon R9 Gamer Series RAM, 2x8GB RAM DDR3-2400. I know the motherboard will support DDR3-2400 RAM, but will the processor support it as well, if it even matters?

I appreciate the response. Part of my build imperative is that I must use AMD, mainly because it's cheaper and faster. We're willing to overlook the power usage (220 watts. Yeesh) in favor of the better price and speeds.

I guess it's debatable. The real reason is my "investor" will only accept AMD, he doesn't like Intel for some reason. . But according to cpuboss.com the 9370 offers better performance, including performance per dollar, versus the i5-4670K in your sig. This site does say the i5 is better than the Vishera, but the Vishera is still ahead in some aspects such as absolute performance and performance per dollar.

But again, I'm just wanting to make sure the RAM sticks will be able to actually operate at 2400MHz with the Crosshair V Formula-Z mobo and the FX-9370 processor. The processor is not up for debate in my current situation, except maybe upgrading to the FX-9590.

Most sites that I have visited say that the FX-9370 only supports up to 1866Mhz, but I would not be surprised if you could overclock your RAM to reach 2400Mhz with the appropriate motherboard. I am currently using an older AMD processor that was able to run my RAM at 2000Mhz. So I would assume that you should be able to do something similar too.

Would I have to buy the Radeon Performance Series DDR3-1866 then? Or should I get the Gamer Series DDR3-2400 anyway?

Yeah, the 9370 supports 3000+ RAM when the RAM is overclocked.

And looking at sites like CPUboss is misleading, as numbers-wise, yes, AMD looks like a winner, but in almost all real world usage, Intel wins.

But as long as your motherboard supports the RAM speed, the 9370 will hit it just fine.

Edit: Both the 1866 and 2400 are overclocked already, so either is fine.

Thanks. That's what I wanted to know.

In my opinion, you'd be better off getting an fx8350 and overclcocking it to 4.7Ghz since the 9590 is just an over clocked version of the fx8350 with a higher wattage to reach those speeds. That is if you went with AMD.

If you went with Intel, and since you have 330$ to spend on a cpu, then you'd be better off getting a 4770k. since the 9590 is as much as a 4770k. The same thing with the 9370, it is just an over clocked 8350 and a under clocked 9590. The 9370 costs the same as the 4670k.

Not to mention, AMD FX is a 2 year old architecture and the AM3+ socket will have no more cpus made for it. You need about a 70$-100$ cpu cooler to cool the fx-9xxx so price to performance is pretty bad.

Assuming this build is for gaming(I assume because of the motherboard) you will not get much performance difference between 1600, 1866, and 2400 ram, Yes you can do it, but not much is to be gained.
