Crossfire vs single GPU

Hi there

I am currently in a dilemma on which of the options I should pick my aim is to get max performance, fps, and aim in the short future to purchase a 1440p monitor currently running a 1080p Acer monitor

1) Add another r9 280x to my existing config to crossfire but to do so I would need to upgrade my psu, further adding to costs

2) Purchase a single r9 290x

3) Purchase a single GTX 780

Which would be the best option considering all my budget is around £400

If it were me, and I was kinda in the same situation with my gtx 670 2months ago I would get either 290x custom oc or 780ti oc card which I did and I hit 1288mhz the other day. Hopefully I can find a buyer for my 670 to get some of my $$ back.
