Hello,

I am planning to upgrade my video card from an EVGA 650 Ti BOOST 2GB to something a bit more better and powerful.

I am deciding to buy either a MSI GeForce GTX 670 2GB or a MSI GeForce GTX 760 4GB with a budget of 300. I am not willing to spend more than 300 on a video card that I will eventually replace in a couple years or so. I'm gonna go for the MSI brand, I love EVGA, but MSI has really good features that I find handy for my build such as MSI Afterburner and in-game video recording. It may not the best software for out of the box, but I find it useful and nice to have.

I am currently running one 20 inch monitor, however I am intending to buy a 12 inch monitor to add just for academic and Skype Call management purposes only. So I will be running a dual screen setup, but I only want to game with the 20 inch monitor.

So here are my PC specs:

CPU: Intel i5-3570K
MOBO: MSI G-45 Thunderbolt
RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance 1866 LP
PSU: Corsair 800W Gaming Series
GPU: EVGA GeForce 650 Ti BOOST

GTX OC 670 2GB:
The reason why I have chosen the 670 as a candidate was that it was one of the slightly "higher end" cards for the 600 series, aside from the 680 and 690. And it has pretty good specs compared to the other cards in its class. For what it is and what its worth at least. It would be a pretty big jump from a GTX 650. However, I'm obviously worried that the 670 card is gonna be outdated in a matter of time since we are already in the 700 series and with the 800 series cards already rumored, it would be a dumb idea to waste $250 on an outdated card. But I'm going after the specs and according to GeForce's Performance Chart, it actually performs SLIGHTLY higher than my other video card choice, the 760. And the fact that the particular 670 card I want to get is already factory Overclocked, I'll be getting more juice out of this card. 2GB is realistically enough for me when it comes to gaming. Not too much, but not too little. So for a total of $250 on Amazon for a Factory Refurbished card, I think this card is a good buy.

GTX 760 4GB/2GB:
I have been eyeing the 760 for a while now. I was actually going to upgrade to it from my initial GPU, a GTX 650 1GB. However at the price point that is WAS at, I decided to go for an upgraded 650. Which is my current card that I am running, the 650 Ti BOOST 2GB. The reason why I wanted a 760 was simple, its in the current 700 series family and it performs better than a 650. Its performance specs were simply better than my current card and it was a reasonable and decent card to upgrade to. This other reason may be contradictive to my previous statement, in that 2GB was suitable for my preference. But at the $270 price point its at RIGHT NOW as of 6/14/14 on Newegg, for a 4GB version, why not get it when it would normally run for $300? The 2GB version costs $270, so the 4GB version costs just as much for the 2GB version. Basically, you get more for your money with the 4GB version at the moment. I understand that 4GB wouldn't help at all when only gaming with on monitor, but I am under the "good to have for later" impression for this card. Plus the 760 supports new technology such as GPU Boost 2.0 or NvDia Surround, which the 670 does not have. However, the surround feature is not of great value to me since as I have mentioned earlier in this thread that I will only game with one monitor.

To me, this comparison was a good match. Each card has its pros and cons that make a pretty big difference.

A 670 2GB, slightly more powerful and a cheaper card than the 760; however, it is an almost-outdated card and the $250 that its worth, that money could go for an updated card.

A 760 4GB, slightly more expensive than the 670, by at least $20, but its in the current 700 series family and will be supported for quite some time. Lots of memory and decent performance as well as new technology, but this card is SLIGHTLY less powerful than a 670. The 2GB version of this card may run around $270.

Which of these two cards would you choose and why?

Thanks in advance!
