Hi, building my first pc here.

My budget, roughly 1600$

I'm kind of diving right in, I have a lot of software / user experience, but incredibly low experience with hardware. I was looking into ibuypower, but decided I didn't want to do that, I would rather build my own, as many people have told me it's cheaper, and you get a lot more customization.

My general needs.. I use photoshop / adobe products for photography / editing as I plan on going to college for graphic design. I also play league of legends as a side hobby. My current computer (Craptop) gets a whopping 30fps on a good day.

I bought some accessories used already, and they're all fine and in working condition

Razer Deathadder
Razer Deathstalker
Razer Goliuthus (Medium / Control)
Asus Monitor VE278Q (I need to get a new power cord, should any 3 pin cord work for this?)

Back to the computer, (going for a black / green look.)

I plan on getting the Nzxt Black/Green Phantom Full tower case (Not changing)

Here were some of the parts I planned on putting into it, I didn't want to get anything I would have to replace in the near future, if I'm over killing it, please say so, but I'd rather spend a lot now, and be fine for a long time, than to have to upgrade every year or so. Taking into consideration all recommendations.

Cpu: i7 4470k
Gpu: Gtx 780
Cpu Cooler: Not sure what I should do for this, I'm nervous about liquid cooling, otherwise I would be going for say.. Nzxt Kraken x40
Motherboard: ASRock Z97X KILLER ATX LGA1150
Power Supply: NZXT HALE82 V2 700W (Bronze)
Ram: Corsair Vengeance ddr3 16gb (2x8gb)
Optical Drive: Asus 24x Black Sata burner
Wireless Adapter: I was going for an asus usb adapter, simply because I have no way of knowing how to install / what would fit for the case I'm going for. First timer.
Fans (The case comes with 2 120mm fans and a 200mm fan, I'm buying an extra 120mm fan, and I bought a 200mm fan already) 3x120mm fans, 2x200mm fans in total.
Soundcard: Using the onboard one, not an audiophile.
Speakers: Creative GigaWorks T20 Series II 28 watts RMS 2.0 Speakers
NZXT APERTURE M 5.25 Bay Multi-Media Mesh Style Card Reader w. Dual USB 3.0

I don't know much about this, if you think I should tone it down on the gpu, or I need a bigger power supply, etc. That would be very very helpful, thanks :)

ditch the asrock mobo

you should get msi, asus, gigabyte.. all better

MSI Z97I Gaming AC LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard ?

This specific mobo lets me eliminate buying the usb wireless adapter.

My friend also suggest I get a SSD to boot from, and to use what I want for storage, I planned on getting like.. a WD hdd (3tb)

I have no idea what to look for in a ssd, but I wouldn't need anything more than 120gb.

i personally would go atx for your case.

you could get a smaller case or a full size mobo.

i think you would be much happier with the msi mobo :)

Yeah, I also suggest you ditch the ASRock motherboard and get an Asus, possibly gigabyte.

With what you plan on doing with it, if you can stretch a little, I would get the GTX 780 Ti. - Thats just my opinion, get a second.

Water cooling is generally safe if installed correctly - If you are nervous about it, you wont really be needing it unless you are doing seriously high CPU demanding programs and tasks.

Having an SSD to boot from is a really good idea, it increases boot up time significantly.
And yeah, ATX with your case, many other motherboards accept PCI slots for wireless adapters.

i am not really up on all the latest solid state stuff but i know if you put windows on the hard drive and the page file on the solid state it should give you good performance.

just having your windows installed uefi will let you boot fast.

MSI Z97 MPOWER LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard (Edited)

I think I'm going to go with this one.

What type of.. wireless adapter am I looking for, and how do I know if there's compatibility issues? Etc.

Is there any reason you are going for a Micro ATX motherboard?
June 14, 2014 9:34:02 PM

you would want a pci express x1 model.

Honestly, i would get a PCI-e x1 wireless network adapter - they are better and there are ones that cost less that your USD 3.0 one.

And for what you want to use your computer with, you were better off with the original 780 you stated earlier than the 770.

I think I'm going to just buy a 50-75 ft cat 6 ethernet with adhesives clips and just try a wired connection.
