Specs:
i7-960 3.2ghz
h100 corsair liquid cooling
geforce EVGA gtx 670
I recently had some problems with my PC. It started to shut down due to an overheating cpu.
I never checked the temperatures before (I'm a little new to building PC's and the hardware) but now that I've learned some more things my cpu temperatures idle at 80 (insane isn't it?!, I was stunned at how high it was). Also when I do turn on my PC... my first couple of programs I turn on freeze my computer for like 10-15 seconds before it starts to run properly again, I assume it's because the temperatures spike up to 100+ and freeze my computer due to extreme overheating.
And I barely turn on any application and the temperatures skyrocket to 100c
So the things I've done so far to try to lower the problem:
1. I've completely removed the thermal paste and applied a new artic silver paste (applying like 2 grains of rice worth of paste, very very little)
2. I've reseated the cooler fan constantly to ensure it's properly even and firmly tight.
Are there any suggestions? This is a huge problem and I don't want to have to buy a new CPU/motherboard if I don't have to. Since I recently purchased my h100 I don't think that's the issue.
If anyone could explicitly explain if I'm applying the paste incorrectly, or not reseating the cooler fan properly or anything.
