Do you have a specific budget in mind?
What have you already bought? Do you have a mouse, keyboard and monitor?

The more the know, the better a system we can suggest to you!

The rule of thumb for building a gaming computer is to pay double for your GPU than your CPU. (E.g. Spend $60 on a CPU, $120 on a GPU)

The FX-6300 should suffice when playing a majority of games, especially at this current date. Over-clocking it would get you better results.
The R9 270x is a good mid-range graphics card and will perform well when paired up with an FX-6300, so I'd suggest doing this.

HOWEVER, make sure that your PSU will support your new CPU/GPU. What PSU do you currently have?

A core i3 won't do much good for gaming, 2 cores really isn't enough for modern games. I'd always suggest going for an i5 if you plan doing intel.

You could buy an i5-4430 with a cheap H81 motherboard. You won't be able to over-clock it but you will get good performance.

Also, upgrading to a reliable 450/550W wouldn't hurt. I'd recommend the 80+ bronze XFX 550W power supply.
