I'll try to keep this minimal as possible. Short story: My new 7870 runs (fans spin) but there is NO signal to HDTV. Purchased a Radeon R9 270X to test, which gets power (fans spin), but NO signal to HDTV.

I spend about 7+ hour strouble shooting and crawling the forums here at tom's hardware and other places.

Specs:

CPU: Intel i5-2500K (not over-clocked)
HEATSINK: Thermaltake CLP0579 120mm Contac 30 Intel LGA-2011 Ready 160W TDP Heatpipe Direct-contact Technology
MOBO: Asus P8P67 Evo (upgraded to latest BIOS 3602 drivers, recently reset ALL settings to default)
RAM: HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
POWER: Raidmax Hybrid 630W ATX12V/EPS12V Power Supply

My previous and working GPU: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5
My new GPU: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB GDDR5
My purchased-for-testing GPU: XFX R9 270X 2GB GDDR5

My set up works fine with my current 6870. When I take out the 6870 and plug in the 7870, one fan spins and normal speed and the other spins lazily. My whole system gets power (I can hear everything book normal) but I get no signal to my HDTV (using HDMI).

When I take out the 7870 and plug the 6870 back in, everything works great once again. So I went to the store, grabbed that R9 270X because I read wattage drain was similiar, and plugged that sucker in my build, replacing the 6870. I figured this would tell me if my 7870 was just bugged or if I needed a new power supply.

Except the R9 270X fans runs on full speed, though again I get no display. PLUS my power supply comes in at 630W which should be more than enough... I though. I plug in the 6870, and here I am, everything works as expected.

Any suggestions? Grab a new power supply?

try a different signal, such as dvi, vga, or displayport. also, test the 2 cards in a different build with the same psu, and a more powerful supply (if you can)
