Hi,

I would like to draw the editors' attention to an issue with the current way the benchmarks for Arma 3 are run. I don't post here often, so I hope this is the right way of addressing this.

Currently, you are using the Infantry Showcase level to test the performance of your set-ups for this specific title. Unfortunately, the Infantry Showcase is a very poor measure of the game's normal performance as it is not only the smallest level geographically, but also in terms of the engagement size and type. It is my experience and that of pretty much every other player I know, that typically A3 is a very CPU-intensive title. This is in large part due to the ballistics (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cix07R1vlhI) and fragmentation (larger projectile hits against heavy armour) calculations run by the game engine. These occur only a relatively limited number of times with regard to ballistics and basically do not occur at all with regard to fragmentation in the said Showcase. As such, it's not representative of the actual game as experienced by the players.

I understand that you already have A3 benchmarks for a number of set-ups, which means that using a different level in the future would void the previous tests, but unfortunately the numbers displayed in tests like on this page (2014Q1 Build Your Own) simply do not match with the real-world frame rates that the players would get on comparable hardware, in this case the i3 4130.

Ideally you should be running your tests on tank+infantry engagements as they produce the largest number of shots within a given time frame and are tasking enough on the system to see whether the CPU is capable of processing the load thrown at it. Lastly, thank you for running this site. It has been an invaluable resource for me over the past years. :)

Cheers,

MVG
