I just recently purchased an MSI r9 290. I am getting very low performance. My unigine valley results are:

fps:52.6
score:2201
min:21.6
max:93.5

Im not sure what my problem is.
here are my system specs.

FX-8320 @ 3.5 GHZ
Asus m5a97 r2.0
cooler master hyper 212 evo
Corsair vengence LP 8 gb 1866
wd caviar blue 1tb
corsair cx 600
MSI r9 290 @ stock speeds (977 core clock, 1250 mem clock)

I have tried DDU and uninstalling my drivers and reinstalling them
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

That is a bout right. A 9590/ R9 290x gets about 60, so your 8320 at 3.5 and r9 290 stock should get about that. My 8350 at 4.4ghz and R9 290 Tri-X OC gets about 55fps.

Do you have issues in any games?
I currently have very low FPS in BF3, BF4, and BFH in DX11 about 38-80fps, but in BF4 and BFH with mantle, I get like 60-120fps...
Same with Saints Row 3 and Sleeping dogs, they run like 40-65fps.
Have you come across this yet?

Yes i have a lot of issues in games. In bf4 i get about 35-70 fps w/ mantle enabled. with bfh, i get about 40-70. All the cod games that i have besides ghosts run at 80 fps, which is a lot worse than my gtx 760 i used to have. Ghosts runs at about 40, and for me its totally unplayable. in all my other games, i get a lot of stuttering and fps drops.

Alright, have you:
-Installed your mobo's chipsets drivers
-installed AMD's normal chipset drivers (should be the same as your mobo chipset, try it anyway)
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/chipset?os=Windows+8
-Reinstall drivers and use drivers 14.4 or 14.6.
-Unpark CPU cores (didn't help me on windows 8, but should help you on windows 7)

and try to PC to like 4.0 ghz. Make sure you have proper cooling
Also turn of all Power saving features on your bios, like c1, c6, cool n quiet, SVM, just all off, se t to disabled.
Also make sure the board is configuring your RAM right.

I've tried all these things, and they didn't help me, but they could help you. they SHOULD have fixed my problem... :/

What game(s) are you experiencing this on? What resolution are you using? Those bench markers aren't the most accurate when compared to actual gaming. Some games that are single core dependent might result in that, but you should be maxed in most games.

I had similar issues as you are having know with my old CPU in my current build. I had the amd fx-8120 3.1ghz. I tried all these things people were recommending. DDU, drivers, 14-14.7. Nothing worked for me. I ended up attempting to Overclock my CPU to 3.6ghz and instantly got an extra 10-15fps. A week later, I decided to purchase the 8350 4.0ghz. I get over 100 fps everywhere on any map now in BF4. You have the 8320 which is pretty much identical to the 8350.

This is what I recommend to you:

Run DDU one more time and install the AMD 14.4 Driver.

After you wipe drivers and install the new one, I want you to Overclock your 8320 and try to achieve 4.0 Ghz.

If you don't know anything about OCing CPUs, there are countless guides for your CPU, and programs you should use to test it.

I believe that it is your cpu that is holding back your performance, as was mine. If you can achieve a OC of 4.0ghz which should be reachable for your chip, you will see great fps. You also have a hyper 212 evo, so overheating at 4.0 won't be an issue.

Glad that helped you but... I had my 8350 at 4.6ghz, and my R9 290 Tri-X still ran BF4 at 40-75FPS all maps...
Now I got the 4790k, ALL of my fps troubles are gone, I run 99% on my GPU all day... Gets 70-110 on BF4 all ultra 1080p now.

I'd recommend you just scrap AMD's 8-core shit and get an i5 for like $220, and a cheap Z97 mobo a well... the 4690k stock beats the 8350, so it will last a lot longer

Thank you anthony stew for replying. i tried to OC my 8320 to 4.3 ghz, but i could not make it stable, so i just loaded factory defaults. i might just do what jkteddy said and buy an i5 and a cheap z97 mobo. thank you everybody who tried to help!

Well let us know the result. Looks Like your FPS on Valley is pretty similar to a second gen i-5 and 290 combo. http://www.overclock.net/t/1488645/r9-290-crossfire-unigine-valley-low-scores

GPU was only ever about 77C max, maybe 80C if i use a lower fan profile with my case fans.

Anyways, my only solution was to swap to a 4790k and Z97 mobo. (yeah, i coulda got an i5 for less, but I like the extra threads).
I'd replaced PSU's, HDD's, tried different windows versions and installs, every driver under the sun, even tried a friends 290 in my rig, same low performance. Only solution was to swap to intel, so to this day I still stand by my claim that the 8350 was indeed bottlenecking my 290 in a variety of games. Hopefully with this 4790k I'll be set for a while. I haven't seen under 100% GPU usage in GPU bound titles since the day I installed this intel, so problem solved for me. Maybe AMD CPU's will be able to compete in the future, but I will not go back to the FX line right now.

yes that definitely was the case. I recently upgraded to an i5 4690k and an MSI z97s sli plus. I saw a dramatic increase in my fps among all my games. At least 15-20 in each and every one. Thanks to everyone who to helped me!
