Yesterday I was browsing the internet on my laptop when it's HDD made a loud grinding/scratching noise for about 4 or 5 seconds. This noise was accompanied by strong vibrations.

I haven't experienced any issues since yesterday so i'm unsure whether or not I should keep using it or replace it.

What do you think I should do? :??:

Thanks for the reply!
I downloaded the program you suggested and it says that my HDD is in good condition.
This is a relief, I wasn't looking forward to spending money on a new drive.

I wouldn't worry about it so much then. I've had hard drives make similar sounds as you speak of and be fine. if it happens again then pay attention to what is going on. Maybe some pressure is is being put on the laptop where the hard drive is. that can make it do a grinding noise

Just to be safe, backup the computer right away.

Then make a clone of the hard disk. (Acronis, Apricorn, EaseUS).

After that check the hard disk using HDTune or CrystalDiskInfo, or both. At this point the decision about the next step will be clear.
