Nvidia 3 monitor 2D Surround 5760x1080 rez .. Facts! no speculations!

Thought I'd post some facts about Nvidia 3 monitor surround 5760x1080 rez.
I have mine up and running great right now!

In looking for info on the subject, there is so much miss information out there, I thought I'd post some real tested facts here.
Pertaining to any 700 series card, DON'T APPLY TO previous series cards.

My current card - GTX 770 4GB vRam

Display port - DON'T NEED TO USE, but can if you like.
UNLESS you wana go past 60hz refresh.
Currently using both DVI ports with HDMI converters, and HDMI port.

Monitors - MUST have identical horz. and vert. sync (+ or -), refresh, and resolution.
In other words buy 3 identical monitors, (make, model, and size.)
I tried 3 with same resolution --- epic fail! Waisted money on a 3rd monitor.
Had to buy 3 new ones!

vRAM - Recommend 4GB card minimum, 3GB would work with lower settings, but my guess
is you would have to turn everything to minimum, to get 2GB to work, if at all...
Every game I run uses a minimum of 3.5 GB of video card ram.
Note: my GTX 770 4GB, card plays everything I throw at it pretty well with high
to ultra in game graphic settings.

Hope this helps anyone who is thinking of trying to get Nvidia surround working.
 
Difference in performance between 2 Gb and 4Gb is marginal on 770s .... not that just cause a game will use more than 2 GB does not necessarily mean that it will improve game performance.

Should note that that's for 60Hz monitors only..... AFAIK, HDMI still doesn't work with 120 / 144Hz.

A single 770 comes up a bit short is some games

Metro 2033 - 5760x1080 - Very High 6 fps
Battlefield 3 - 5760x1080 - Ultra 4x AA - DoF 90 31 fps
Crysis 2 DX11 - 5760x1080 - Extreme Hi-res-Edge AA 27 fps
Dirt: Showdown - 5760x1080 - Ultra 4x AA 35 fps
Max Payne 3 - 5760x1080 - Highest 16x AF 2x AA 33 fps
Far Cry 3 - 5760x1080 - Ultra 4xAA 19 fps
Hitman: Absolution - 5760x1080 - High 4x AA 20 fps
Crysis 3 - 5760x1080 - Very High 4x AA 12 fps
Tomb Raider - 5760x1080 - Ultra 4x AA 17 fps
BioShock Infinite - 5760x1080 - Ultra DDOF 30 fps
Metro Last Light - Very high - 5760x1080 23 fps

The good news is that just about all of those get OK in SLI .... Far Cry 3 is 33 fps, Hitman 38 fps.....and Metro 2033 jumps just 1 fps to 7

2GB, DISAGREE.
For giggles we just put my sons gtx770 2GB card in my mobo.
EPIC FAIL! dropped fps average to 20, and was unplayable at my current settings, on 3 different games.
vRam was maxed at 2GB and everything is shuddering like crazy.
We did get um to play by, setting all graphics to min. but it looked awfull
 
I dunno where ya went wrong but did you look at that link ? Some games ran slower and the ones that went faster on 4 GB were marginally so ....why do you think that they were able to do this effortlessly using over 30 games and you are having quite a different experience ?

Witcher 2 = 17.1 on 2 GB / 17.1 on 4 GB
Serious Sam 3 = 50.2 on 2 GB / 50.0 on 4 GB

Batman AC = 32 on 2 GB / 32 on 4 GB
BF3 = 34.9 on 2 GB / 34.8 on 4 GB

Hitman Abs. = 19.5 on 2 GB / 20.6 on 4 GB
far Cry 3 = 18.4 on 2 GB / 19.0 on 4 GB


This leaves five games out of 30 where a 4GB GTX 770 gives more than a 1 frame per second difference over the 2GB-equipped GTX 770. And one of them, Metro: Last Light still isn’t even quite a single frame difference.

Of those five games, two of them are unplayable at 5760×1080 although in these cases, 4GB GTX 770 SLI would finally make some sense over 2GB GTX 770 SLI. That only leaves Lost Planet 2 and two racing games that gain some advantage by choosing a single GTX 770 4GB card over the single GTX 770 2GB. And in Lost Planet 2, we were able to add even higher anti-aliasing – from 8xAA to CSAA8XQ and to CSAA32X – but the performance difference was greatest with 8xAA.

There is one last thing to note with Max Payne 3: It would not normally allow one to set 4xAA at 5760×1080 with any 2GB card as it claims to require 2750MB. However, when we replaced the 4GB GTX 770 with the 2GB version, the game allowed the setting. And there were no slowdowns, stuttering, nor any performance differences that we could find between the two GTX 770s.

I think we have a clue right there.....I have to wonder if it is your "settings" are the difference as it was there.

don't know what they are doing or what their agenda is, but I'm telling ya for a fact that the 2 gb card don't cut it at 5760x1080!
all other factors being the same, switching cards, looses 10-20 fps, that's with the exact same mobo, and settings, and simply switching cards.
what can be said? I have no agenda, don't care what people buy, or where they spend their money. all I can say is the facts are in front of me.
plus, how could it not make a difference, with the 4 gb card, it's using 3.5gb of vRam, and it maxes the 2gb cards vRam and holds it there, makes total scence that it would drop fps.
 


As is quoted quite aptly in article..... "using" and showing a performance increase are two different things. I am not doubting your experience, I'm just saying it's not what happens on most boxes, and obviously, not in the test lab..
