So here's my current build:

I want to spend about £750 in total excluding peripherals.

I've read multiple sites which claim the 770 is better than the 280x and vice versa.
Ideally I want to spend about £240 on a gpu and these 2 seem pretty similarly priced. So which one do I get? I want to be able to run new games on max settings.
Also motherboard suggestions would be good. I was thinking of this http://www.amazon.co.uk/P8Z77-V-Motherboard-CrossFireX-...

Ive got the same gpu, and i cant fault it - runs all games i've played on max settings, fans are quiet,m obviously you can hear then if you 100% the fans. Temps i get, is 25c on idle and approx 68c when playing bf4 on ultra. I dont touch amd myself, they notoriously run at 65c at idle.

I would get the GTX 770 because it is probably cooler than the 280x.

The R9 280x, It is new with mantle tech and all!
At stock config both are similar.
Though GtX 770 gives a bit a high results when both are overclocked.
.
So GTX 770 it is.

I also have a GTX 770 which I can highly recommend.
I don't think I've ever heard the fans on the card.

I play BF4 and can run ultra settings with no problems.
If I turn down settings to Medium, where the game still looks awesome, I get frame rates of around 120.
If I can just turn down settings a bit on new games that will come out in 2015 and maybe even 2016 too, and get acceptable fps that way - and still enjoy the graphics very much like I do today with BF4 at Medium settings - I expect the card to last the next 1-2 years with no problems.
