3-Monitor Eyefinity setup for Work

Hello,
My workstation has an AMD Radeon HD 6450 that has 3 video outputs. 1x DVI, 1x VGA, and 1x HDMI.

I have 3 monitors; 2 of them use DVI or VGA and the third uses anything (DVI, DP, VGA, DVI).

Being a noob to this kind of setup I used all three ports without any adapters and am stuck using 2 of my 3 monitors.

To make this plain and simple, should everything be adapted to VGA? or HDMI? Which adapter should I go for?

Thanks!

  1. I suspect that you can only use the DVI or the VGA but not both.

You need to read your manual for your graphics card as it gives the possible output configurations. Most of the time now though, if you have both DVI and VGA the VGA output is just tapped off of the DVI and sent through a digital to analog converter (DAC) so you can't use both.

If that's correct (again read the manual) you would need another graphics card to add the third output so either get one that supports all three monitors at the same time, or add another card.

I have a 760GTX collecting dust at home (EDIT: DVI-I, DVI-D, HDMI, DisplayPort), will that support 3 monitors? I had previously thought I had to stay with AMD for such a setup.
  3. Older cards like the 6450 only support 2 out of the 3 possible attachments at the same time.
You could buy a second card like a 6450 or a more modern card.

If you have a modern os like w7/8, you can support multiple graphics drivers. Attaching the GTX760 would run fine.
Actually, I think the GTX760 can support three simultaneous monitors

The 6450 supports only 2 simultaneous outputs. Digital or analog is irrelevant and is not a factor even on old cards. The 760 only having 3 ports isn't right since afaik they all have 4. But having dp makes me believe it's a new card but I just want to make sure. Because a 760 supports 4 monitors and is a lot better performance if that matters. Not sure why you thought you had to stick with amd, but you can use any company on any setup.
  5. Thanks for the help guys, I updated my previous reply to show the correct outputs on my video card. So I will show up to work tomorrow with this video card and 2x standard DVI cables along with 1x HDMI cable and using nvidia control panel. Hopefully that is correct
