Good day,

Looking for any feed back on selling my custom built computer. I spent approximately $5000 on a high end build last year (May 2013) and would like to know what would be the best way to sell it that would get me close to what I spent.

Reason for me considering to sell is that I would like to build another pc.

If anyone out there can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

Joe

Hello,

That is a tough one; as soon as you took the components out of their boxes, they are considered second-hand. The best way is to sell the components one by one, but also it will take a long time before sell them all. What is your configuration? A high-end desktop, a workstation? Maybe it is best to ask the friends/colleagues if they want the system, you could break the price in monthly payments.

Selling the parts individually works nicely, because it allows you to keep parts you may want, such as the case, while getting rid of older parts that you would like to upgrade. Not a lot of people need a year old $5000 PC, most people willing to spend that much would rather build it themselves. It would probably still be worth maybe $3000, but the problem is that with secondhand parts is that the value drops drastically, because in an expensive PC, it will be doing intensive processes, meaning high temperatures, which also means reduced lifespan. There is also the risk of physical and electrical damage.

Short answer: Sell individual parts. Make more money. Keep what you want.
