I don't think there is much of a point until integrated graphics on cpu get better. One would use a display port for high bandwidth signals for 4k resolutions etc... they are still non-standard, though many GPU makers are implementing display ports on the latest generations.

Motherboard manufactures are out to make a profit, saving money where it is needed. That is why VGA ports are still soldered to motherboards, they are cheap and still widely used. A display port is more likely expensive and not as widely used (partially due to weak integrated graphics), so there is no point for manufactures to add it to a board. In addition, gaming boards/high end boards are designed for buyers who will most definitely use a GPU, so they leave off display ports/vga/dvi. Figuring the GPU will house display ports.
