Hello out there,
Which of thses two are the best for gaming? They are in the same price class where I'm ordering it from. The screen will mostly be used for gaming, but of course also surfing the web, homework and such.
First choice: http://www.amazon.co.uk/BenQ-GL2460-24-inch-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B00AQBWMTK#productDetails
Second choice: http://www.samsung.com/levant/consumer/computers-peripherals/monitors/led-monitor/LS24D390HL/ZN?
I thank you for your help! :)

TN is old tech, it's still ok but IPS can give you better quality.

PLS is a cheaper version of IPS, so if you had to choose between those 2 monitors, I would get the samsung.

It will be okay for gaming right? Just read that you need the least possible response time. I just think that IPS panels are rather expensive when I look at them.

As mentioned in the article, TN panels have better response times, making them good for gaming. Unfortunately they are not all the same. Some are better than others.

I'd recommend TN if you want to game at 120hz or higher and IPS if you focus more on the desktop, or don't want to spend the money for 120hz, but make sure it is not worse than 6ms on response times.

Yup, it's more than fine. When you search "IPS" though, your searches may only bring up high quality $400+ ones.
TN will work, but as mentioned, just make sure it's less than 5ms response time (I think that's close to the norm now)

I totally neglected to notice you are from the UK in my post hehe.

Here is a list of IPS monitors

There are about 10 that are close to the same price as the BenQ. Hope that helps :)

You'll barely be able to notice the response time. Only self-proclaimed "professional gamers" notice a difference between 2ms and 5ms response time.

The pixel response time is far more than a "self-proclaimed "professional gamers"" need. It's more of a 120hz need, though it still helps at 60hz, but at 60hz, 5ms is probably good enough. The problem at 120hz is that it will take longer for pixels to change color than a frame lasts, causing ghosting problems and in general, under motion, 5ms will cause colors to always be shifting, and never reaching their correct color. This is because 5ms gray to gray is a best case scenario, and not the average.
