I just bought a 32" 120Hz Smart TV as a monitor, but I heard its not really a 120Hz, only 60Hz.

Everything on the TV looks really nice, only thing of course is its 60Hz, should I return it and go for a Monitor instead with true 120Hz, does it really make a big difference?

(Used for gaming and movies)

Thanks!

More about : 60hz 120hz

if you are a casual gamer who likes to browse internet and binge on tv shows and movies then you DONT need 120hz!!.... 120hz is for enthusiasts and not for regular use... most of the media you see is 60hz so you wont see any difference

TVs are never 120hz... they force picture to look like 120hz for less choppy and more smoother picture... they do that by repeating the frames twice in the given time ...its like showing you the same picture twice but realy fast to give you the illusion of a cleaner picture

but hey dont worry ,..i think you will be fine with it.. :D
i myself use a 50 inch led tv from samsung as my gaming monitor and for cable tv.....it works and you wont feel much difference..you will be fine

Hey brother, thanks so much for that information, really helped. I have one more question for you personally since you already own a tv monitor.

I tend to get input lag when I play games, I currently have an older graphics card GTX 570 HD 2.5gb, if I upgrade that to lets say a GTX 780 Ti, would that input lag go away, or is it there to stay?

I don't get lag with my sharp 46'' one thing to look at is the response time of the monitor/hdtv mine claims 4ms also I found that a dvi[card] to hdmi[tv] worked the best but I guess it depends on the tv on how well it works
what brand is yours?

OH !..the lag.. yes yes.. its because of the 120hz forced by the tv.... just select game mode if it has any or disable fancy features like trumotion etc and you will be fine...

Response times are not related to input latency/lag. Response times, or more fully, pixel response times are related to ghosting. How long it takes pixels to change color, not how long it takes to display the image.

I got the Sony Bravia 32", just got it a few days ago, but it doesn't specify the response time anywhere.

It makes a big difference if you're actually viewing something running at greater than 60 FPS. If you've got the hardware to run your games at 90-120 FPS, I'd have no problem recommending you get a 120 Hz monitor.

You don't have to yell at me, just joking lol...KDL32W700B

I have a Game Mode on my TV, however I want to play games with the full color potential of my TV, if I get a better graphics card do you think that the input lag will go away even with Game Mode off?

Appreciate it man.

bravia has motion flow feature which tries to make the picture smoother.... by forcing 120hz.. if you somehow turn it off..you might get it fixed..

go to picture settings (options on remote) for that input and scroll down past brightness, color etc, you'll get to motionflow, cinemotion option. Click until it says "off."

Each input on the TV has its own set of options unless you select to have the same settings at each input.

Oh I c, I don't have Motionflow option, but I do have Cinemotion, is that the samething?

I have the following:

Noise Reduction
MPEG Noise Reduction
Dot Noise Reduction
Reality Creation
Resolution
Noise Filtering
Smooth Gradation
Display Speed Preference
LED Motion Mode

disable cinemotion, reality creation, smooth gradiation...... if display speed preference has an option btw 60 and 120 then choose 60...or else leave it as it is.... DONE!
