I am planning to buy this laptop ASUS k541 with a i5 4200U processor

http://startechbd.com/laptops-and-notebooks/Asus-Laptop...

this laptop has the almost the same configuration as MSI GP60

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

except the processor here is i5 4200M. and a resolution 1920X1080 where asus k541 has a resolution of 1366X768. Both has the geforce 840M 2GB edition

My question is basically how much performance degradation should i expect for the i5 4200U processor at 1366X768.

My choices are limited whatever available in my local market. And i am not finding any laptops with 4200M right now. There are some products from older batches which has a Ati HD8750 gpu which is a lot slower than geforce 840M i think.

these are some gpu models that i am getting in the market all of them are available with U processors except the hd8750.

Now it is not said in that what kind of cpu might get what kind of performance with those gpus.

so please give me some ideas what kind of differences i am going to see with that processor with that gpu.

and another thing there are some dell and hp laptops too with the exact same configuration. the difference is design and compactness. dell one is a little bulky, next hp and last asus[least bulky]. is formfactor going to make a difference[ if you you keep in mind the heat dissipation].

Thanks in advance.

if i were you, i would pick the 1080p lappy, cause it will come handy in many situtations.
For the performance i dont think you should worry, The 1366x768 would be able to play ultra i guess, while the full hd medium-high.
Resolution is a huge resource eater.
But still get the full hd. Did the mistake once i had the choice to get the full hd or the 1600x900, still regretin.
I'd go for the MSI.
Hope i helped.

Thank you

problem is the GP60 is priced 99000 BDT or 1237 $ here
and ASUS k541 is priced 56000-60000 BDT or around 700 or 800 $.

the price here is not with sync with US market.

and it is quite a big gap. what i understood from your answer is 840m can handle most games at medium with that cpu[i5 4200U] at 1366X768 resolution.

i am really concerned about cpu performance as i am not finding any benchmarks with games on it.

no, u getting it wrong, 840m and i5 4200U would play most games on ultra for sure, due to 1366x768.
840m and i5 4200k would play most games on medium - high on 1920x1080.
just to give u a glimpse from my perfomance on my old laptop. i5 2540m 2.5ghz 4 cores, gtx 555m 8gb ram 1333hz 1600x900, could play league of legends ultra - while i was botting in world of warcraft. 60 fps no lag. But it was 1600x900 not full hd. I dont think i would be able to do this on 1920x1080(full hd)
hope that is clear now.

also the price yes is a big gap, but u cant upgrade a laptop everyday.
