I have an Asus drw-24b3st and i bought a SATA to USB 3.0 adapter. The adapter is fine but doesn't work for the drive. The drive shows up on windows but the tray wont open.
The adapter works for hard drives.
Is this because the drive doesn't get enough power?
How do i fix it? Do i buy a SATA to USB adapter that has two USB connectors?

Thanks.

yea their may not be enough power. You say it works on hard drives? Are they laptop 2.5 inch drives or have you used it on 3.5 inch drive? Most of those USB adapters only work on laptop drives with out extra power even on USB 3.0. May have to get an adapter that is only the SATA part and not the power as well. I know i got one just to use for Laptop drives and it powers them as well but anything else it won't work on.

Ive tried both a 2.5 inch and a 3.5 inch drive. The 2.5 inch works fine, the 3.5 doesnt work. Then i guess it must be power.
Will buying something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB2-0-USB-3-0-to-22-Pin-SATA-2...
solve it?

IDK if that would work. I doubt it. would need more of a kit like this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA30R...

where Power and SATA are seperate and you can give it more power though the external power. Its because it needs a 12V. USB Doesn't give 12V Only 5v

If it was just for a HDD i would say get a USB Dock like a BlacX dock but since you're doing a ODD Drive you need to have the extra power for that which the USB just Can't and Won't provide.
