Hello,

Few weeks ago my motherboard broke down (luckily it had warranty) so I took it to the shop to get a new one. Sadly, they weren't able to give me the same motherboard (I had ASRock R970) so they gave me ASUS M5A97 R2.0 as replacement. (That's why I put this in 'motherboards' section, everything worked fine with the old one)

I installed Windows, drivers, and some programs and everything was working fine until it suddenly just turned off. I was unable to turn it on again, so I pulled the plug out of the wall, then back in and I could normally turn it on again. The problem persisted with different time periods (sometimes it would turn off after 5, and sometimes after 30 minutes). I would also mention that I never hard similar problems before the motherboard failure.

My first thought was that the problem is probably heat wise and I thought that some of the fans weren't hooked up properly. I checked and all fans worked fine. I also monitored PC temperature and it seems that all components were under 30 degree celsius, except GPU which was at 35(they seemed good enough).

I can also hear the 'ticking' noise from my PC case, unable to pinpoint from where exactly does it come from, I hear it from the upper part of the case(where PSU,CPU and fans are). I should also mention that the noise is not constant, I might hear it tick a few times in a hour or so.

Here is my configuration:
AMD FX-6300
ASUS M5A97
580W XILENCE PSU
2x4gb DDR3 Ram
1 TB Blue Caviar WD drive
ATI Radeon HD 7850 1 GB

Just to add, all of the parts are fairly new(none older than 6 months, I got new PSU and GPU few months ago, and now the motherboard)

Well, that would be all. I already had to wait a long time to get replacement for my motherboard and now this..Hopefully someone is able to help me in solving this problem.

Thanks for reading. - Damir

just try checking with a different spare or borrowed psu if ticking comes out of the psu then it means it getting shorted and that may be reason of frequent voltage fluctuation which is resulting to pc turn off....

I forgot to mention that the ticking isn't constant, but randomly occurs. I don't have any spare PSU but I guess I could take the PC back to the shop and have them check it if needed. I just want to be sure that it's something I'm unable to fix.

As prit said try testing it with another PSU, else it might be for power chip which is placed on motherboard. If the second one is right then you should buy a new motherboard.
