I am buying a WD My Passport Ultra 1TB Portable External USB 3.0 Hard Drive with Auto Backup
for storage and backup. I have a SSD primary. So the question is:
Does it function like a removable USB, i mean just plug and operate without having to reboot the system (which may not take long on my laptop but can still be annoying).
Normally, I wouldn't think so but since the Ext. HDD comes with an installation software, that makes me think it works like a removable media.
Also, some people have problems such as Ext, HDD not showing up or slowing down the system or boot time. Any information/advice/suggestion about that will be appreciated
P.S. Apart from the question itself, if you have any suggestion or advice or anything i should know about the topic, please share.
Thanks

Yes, it's plug and play. The software you install is backup software to schedule regular backups, etc.

thanks. one more thing.... I am new to Ext. HDD experience.
The backup software or Auto Backup on Ext. HDD, how does it function and can it create backup of my primary SSD on the Ext. HDD? I am planning on keeping my SSD backup on the large Ext. HDD.

It wil be almost self-explpanatory once you install it and yes, it will allow you to create a backup of your SSD.

It will allow you to make a bootable backup to restore the system or allow yu to restore individual files. Works like a charm.
