Hey! I was planning on getting a new PC but Im not sure what monitor I want. I have narrowed it down to these two: ASUS MX279H 27-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor or the ASUS PB278Q 27-Inch WQHD LED-lit Professional Graphics Monitor. I will be using these for gaming and surfing the web.

If your getting a good graphics card, GTX 770/R9 280X or greater & multiple monitor setup isn't important, then i'd go with the PB278Q.

ASUS MX279H

-thin bezel so ideal for multiple monitor setup.
-limited stand adjustment, no height adjust.
-won't require as much GPU horsepower to run as it's only 1080p resolution.
-cheaper.

ASUS PB278Q

-adjustable professional stand incl. height adjust.
-more densely packed pixels so crisper picture.
-requires more GPU power to run 1440p resolution.
-more expensive

780Ti can handle 1440p fine. It will max out 95% of games, with the odd exception i.e Metro 2033 or Crysis 3 etc..

You certainly wouldn't need a 780Ti for the 1080p monitor. Even a 780 would be doggy paddling at that resolution.
