After looking around at different manufacturers (and cringing at their price tags), I've decided to take the plunge and build my own rig. I have a budget of $2000 for the pc + monitor (lower is better, but would hopefully not sacrifice performance) and am hoping you might have some feedback on the components I've selected. My main uses will be light gaming (Diablo III, some MMOs, but not on the max settings) and heavy "informatics"--so CAD, Arc/Quantum GIS, statistics and modeling software, imaging software etc. Also will probably stream some HD movies/shows occasionally.
I am a big multitasker and my research will require having several resources intensive programs open at the same time. I will be starting a doctorate so ideally this set up will be somewhat future-proof and good for the next couple of years (willing to swap out components if need be, but hoping that I won't have to replace everything). Planning on buying the components this week and assembling in August, but can wait to purchase a part if there are upcoming sales or something. Thanks in advance!
