How to properly setup a dual monitor rig with different sized monitors and resolutions?

When I see multiple monitor setups, they are usually done with 3 monitors of the same model and size and therefore look quite seamless. I unfortunately do not have that capability, but I still need a second monitor to help with work. I currently have a 18.5 inch 1366x768 monitor, and plan on purchasing a 21.5 inch 1080p monitor to accompany it. My question is, how can I setup a wallpaper such that it looks seamless, even though they might be different sizes and different heights, and how can I configure the monitors such that my mouse leaves the edge of one monitor and enters the second monitor at the same height? Note that neither of the monitors have height adjustment, and I dislike the idea of propping one of the monitors up.

Use extended desktop mode. For the wallpaper issue you'd need a program like DisplayFusion.

I don't see how you are going to do it without shimming 1 monitor.

Your video properties will approximate the same desktop size, but you still have to match the heights of the monitors.
