Hello, i recently bought the Asus VG238QE, i updated the drivers of monitor and graphic card, im using a alienware notebook of last generation with a graphic card NVDI Geforce GTX 770M. im using a DV link with a Mini display port adapter (the 144hz support the dp option) but anyway i cant get more than 60hz in the screen configuration with 1920x1080. What am i doing wrong? Can you help me? Thanks!

Solution

yes you can also use a dp to mini dp since both monitor and laptop provide!

i use the Dvi link which i got with the monitor, and i bought an adapter in other shop, i have an alienware 17 , the last model, the adapter is OH i understand what you mean, im reading the adapter description and i see my fail, the adapter only supports 60 hz, i bought a link Dp to mini Dp and im gonna test if this way works. Im gonna tell you if im right.

gtx 770m supports dp 1.2 version needed for 120hz support and multimode(DP++), so i guess your alienwere does too.however im pretty sure you will need an active dp to dvi adapter to actually achieve 120-144hz! and they are pretty expensive!

it wont suffice since it is SL(single link) - DVI. you will need something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812996114 ''Mini DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI-D Active Adapter Cable''

IT DID! YEAH!
For everyone with a laptop and Asus VGE248QE, if you have a mini display port, get a link mini DP to DP and if you computer is compatible you will solve the problem!

Haha, a year later I have a similar question.
I just got a Sager NP8652 and it has 2 minidisplay 1.2 ports. I am thinking of getting this monitor as well.
Where you able to actually get 144hz or only 120hz? And any suggestions for the best adapters? Looking through Amazon, they all have pretty bad reviews for some reason.

Would this work? http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters%C2%AE-DisplayPort-Thunderbolt-Compatible/dp/B00C7RJQPY/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1433122969&sr=1-1&keywords=mini+displayport+to+displayport

There is no DVI-D in the laptop, only mini displayport. So what is the point of using an adapter if displayport is present on the monitor and according to the article, displayport allows 144hz?
