I have been having a problem with toms hardware forum for some time, here is what happens

1. I come to the site but it does not recognise my credentials even though I know they are correct.
2. So I do a password reset and enter my email address
3. It send me a password reset link
4. I click on the link in the email sent by the forum, it take me back to the site and tells me a new password has been sent
5. I collect my email and collect the new password that has been emailed.
6. I paste that new password and set my own new password. I am then fine until I log out

When I come back to the site (when cookies have been deleted after my browser closes) I can't login using my new password set in 6 or the password set in 5.

I have to go through the whole process above just to log in. It is one of the reasons I don't come to this site that often.

Sometimes the sign in button goes grey and there is an activity icon showing.

To be honest it is not sensible emailing a password, most people email a link to reset it and the reset is done on the site.

If anyone has a cure for this I would be grateful.

I'd recommend deleting all cookies and history of the site from your browser. Google how to do that if you don't know how.
Then once you're looged in the account try manually changing the password in the account management rather than with a reset link.
Then test, hope it works.

What happens is I just give up on the site until I forget.

I have no problem with thousands of other sites, how do I know it is thousands?

Same way I KNOW my password is CORRECT because I store it in Lastpass.

The only way I can access this site is to do a password reset every time.

No it is not a cookie issue because my browser deletes them all between sessions and I do myself manually often enough. If fact if I delete my cookies the cycle will start over

If you have Lastpass set to automatically log into the site that is the problem. Disable auto login for this site.

LastPass fills in things like your email address into hidden input fields that are used as anti-botting measures. If you want to keep using auto-fill you will need to edit your LastPass site profile and clear the value for any form fields that contain something other than your username and password. You can do this by opening the edit dialog and clicking on "Edit Form Fields" in the lower right. Alternatively, delete and recreate the site profile. The form field names change all the time so the issue will likely reoccur in the future.

The other option is to stop using auto-fill for this site and manually copy the username and password when logging in.
